National Air Force Museum of Canada

The National Air Force Museum of Canada, located on the western edge of CFB Trenton, is the country's largest aviation museum dedicated to the history of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The main hangar holds a rotating collection of restored military aircraft spanning from World War I biplanes to Cold War jets. Outside, the Air Park displays larger aircraft — bombers, transports, and patrol planes — that can be walked around and photographed up close.

Entry to the outdoor Air Park is free at all times. The indoor collection has a modest admission charge. It is accessible without entering the base itself, with a separate entrance off Airport Road. Allow two to three hours if you have any interest in aviation history. The museum also covers the RCAF's role in the Battle of Britain and the Commonwealth Air Training Plan, which turned hundreds of thousands of airmen into pilots during World War II.

A story
CFB Trenton serves as Canada's primary air transport hub and is the base from which the Snowbirds aerobatic team deploys. During the Afghanistan war, the base's runway at night became the somber return point for fallen Canadian soldiers — a ceremony the public called the Highway of Heroes.
