Agawa Canyon Tour Train

The Agawa Canyon Tour Train departs from Sault Ste. Marie's station early in the morning and returns the same evening, spending about two hours at the canyon floor where waterfalls, lookout trails, and a suspension bridge await. The journey through Algoma country is itself the attraction — vast, unpeopled landscape that most Canadians never see.

Autumn (late September to mid-October) is peak season, and for good reason. The canyon walls erupt in red, orange, and gold, and the angle of light in this narrow gorge makes every hour look cinematic. Snow Train runs in winter for those who want a different experience — frozen waterfalls and quieter crowds.

A story
The train runs a 183-kilometre round trip through a roadless wilderness of Canadian Shield granite, boreal forest, and waterfalls — the only way to reach Agawa Canyon without a helicopter. In autumn the canyon's hardwood blaze makes this one of Canada's most dramatic fall foliage experiences, and the one-day excursion sells out weeks in advance.
