Sault Ste. Marie is about 700 kilometres north of Toronto by road — a long drive on Highway 17 through Northern Ontario. Fly if time matters: Air Canada and regional carriers connect the Sault to Toronto and occasionally other centres. The Greyhound bus network no longer serves Northern Ontario, leaving driving or flying as the only realistic options from the south.
From the American side, the International Bridge connects to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. If you are on a US road trip through the Upper Peninsula, crossing here is straightforward. Keep your passport and be prepared for the standard border questions.
