The current Burgoyne Bridge, opened in 2017, carries St. Paul Street West across the steep wooded gorge of Twelve Mile Creek between downtown St. Catharines and the western neighbourhoods. The 412-metre cable-stayed structure replaced a heritage steel-truss bridge built in 1915 that had reached the end of its life.
The footpath across is a short walk from downtown and gives a clear view down into the gorge, north to the lake, and back across the city. The original 1915 truss was carefully dismantled and parts of it have been incorporated into a public art installation at the eastern abutment.
