Terrace Bay Beach is the town's best place to feel Lake Superior rather than just glimpse it from the road. There is sand, a boardwalk, picnic space, a boat launch, and cold, clear water that looks inviting even when swimming is optimistic.
The beach also has views toward the Slate Islands and access to short trails near the river mouth. It is a good picnic stop if you are driving the north shore.
