Terrace Bay

Lake Superior north-shore town with waterfalls, beach walks, and rugged coastal trailheads.

Terrace Bay is a small Lake Superior town with a better setting than its highway frontage first suggests. The north shore here is all cold blue water, boreal forest, broken rock, and sudden drops into gorges, with the Slate Islands sitting offshore like a promise of wilder country.

The town works best for travellers already moving along Highway 17 or the Lake Superior Circle Tour. Aguasabon Falls, Terrace Bay Beach, and the lighthouse viewpoint make an easy short stop, while the Casque Isles Trail and boat trips toward the Slate Islands can turn it into a full outdoor day.

Do not come expecting a polished resort town. Terrace Bay is practical and sparse, but the landscape is real, and the best sights are close enough together to make the stop worthwhile.
