Thomas Foster Memorial

Copper-domed rural memorial inspired by the Taj Mahal and Byzantine churches.

The Thomas Foster Memorial is the kind of roadside surprise that makes a small-town drive worthwhile. Built as a family mausoleum for former Toronto mayor Thomas Foster, it mixes Taj Mahal inspiration, Byzantine shapes, copper domes, bronze doors, marble, and mosaic into one compact rural monument.

Check opening hours before setting out, as access can be limited. Even from the outside, it is a strange and memorable stop among the farms north of Uxbridge.
