Wasaga Beach Provincial Park

Long protected freshwater beach with shallow Georgian Bay water, dunes, trails, and busy summer beach areas.

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is the main event: a long sweep of pale sand on southern Georgian Bay, broken into numbered beach areas and backed by dunes, cottages, parking lots, and patches of shade. The water is shallow and usually warmer than people expect from Georgian Bay, which is why families keep coming back.

Beach Area 1 is the social end, with the most people and the quickest access to food and rentals. Beaches 3 to 6 are calmer and better for a slower day. Away from the sand, the park has trail systems used for hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.

A story
In 1934, the beach served as a runway for the Trail of the Caribou, the aircraft that made the first overseas flight from mainland Canada to England. The long, flat sand was useful before it became mainly a summer playground.
