Wasaga Beach is not subtle. It is an Ontario summer town stretched along Georgian Bay, with a sandy freshwater beach so long that the numbered beach areas feel like a small geography lesson. On a hot July weekend it can be busy, loud, and unapologetically beachy.
The reason to come is still simple: Wasaga Beach Provincial Park protects the main strip of sand, where the water stays shallow for a long way and Blue Mountain sits across the bay. Beach Area 1 is the lively end; the western beach areas are better if you want shade, families, and fewer people.
There is more here than towels and chips. Nancy Island Historic Site gives the town a War of 1812 story, the Nottawasaga River cuts a canoeable route through the sand flats, and the park trails turn useful in winter for skiing and snowshoeing. Wasaga is best as a day out from southern Georgian Bay, not as a polished resort town.
