Grosse Île National Historic Site

The national historic site preserves the old quarantine station: disinfection buildings, staff houses, churches, hotels for different passenger classes, and the village-like remains of a place built to screen arrivals before they reached Québec.

Parks Canada guides give the island most of its force. Without the stories, the buildings are quiet timber and stone; with them, the machinery of migration, disease, fear, and survival becomes much harder to forget.
