Matane's 1906 lighthouse is now a small maritime museum and tourist office. The tower gives a simple but satisfying view over the St. Lawrence, the town, river mouth, wind turbines, and, in clear weather, the Chic-Chocs.
It is the easiest landmark in town to love. Go early or late for the light, and wear shoes that make sense for climbing the tower stairs.
