The Sentier international des Appalaches-Québec is the long-distance trail crossing the Gaspé Peninsula. Around Matane, it gives access to the Chic-Chocs and the Matane Wildlife Reserve, with moose country, forested ridges, and long sections suited to serious hikers.
This is not a casual stroll from town. Plan ahead for maps, transport, reservations, and overnight shelter if you are tackling more than a short section.
