The Musée d'art de Rouyn-Noranda is the city's clearest contemporary-culture stop. Its exhibitions give Rouyn-Noranda a different register from the mine-and-smelter story, and the museum is easy to combine with a walk through the centre.
It is not a huge institution, but that suits the city. The point is to see how much cultural life exists this far northwest in Quebec.
