The International Balloon Festival is Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu's best-known event. Held in August at the airport, it brings mass balloon launches, evening glows, concerts, food, and family activities.
Weather decides whether balloons fly, so do not treat a launch as guaranteed. Still, when the sky fills with colour, the festival gives the city a travel identity far stronger than its size would suggest.
