70 Mile Butte is a short hike with a sharp payoff: open views over the West Block's grassland, ridges, and distant coulees. It is only a 2 km loop, but the exposed climb feels harder in summer heat than the distance suggests.
Go early or late in the day for softer light and less heat. There is little shade, and wind can make the summit feel more serious than the map implies.
