Broadway District

The Broadway District, stretching along Broadway Avenue east of the Broadway Bridge, is where Saskatoon keeps its independent bookshops, vintage clothing stores, coffee roasters, and the higher-quality end of its restaurant scene. The neighbourhood has been Saskatoon's counter-cultural and bohemian district since at least the 1970s and has managed to resist the gentrification-homogenization that has flattened similar districts in other Canadian cities.

The Saturday farmers' market at Riversdale, a short walk west, draws large crowds in summer and is one of the better provincial farmers' markets. Come for the Saskatoon berry jam, the wild rice, and the locally produced charcuterie. The Broadway neighbourhood is most enjoyable on a warm summer evening, when the patios fill up and the street has a genuine city-dwellers-out-for-the-night energy.
