Cerro Tortuguero

Low rainforest hill with the best view over Tortuguero's canals, beach, and flat coast

Cerro Tortuguero is a low hill north of the village, but in this flat coastal landscape it feels like a mountain. The climb is short and usually reached by boat, with steps leading through humid forest to a lookout over the canals, the Caribbean, and the green sweep of the coast.

Go early if you can. The view is better in clear weather, and the trail is more pleasant before the heat builds.
