The Sea Turtle Conservancy has worked in Tortuguero since the 1950s, making this one of the longest-running sea turtle research sites in the world. Its visitor centre is small, but it gives useful context before a night turtle walk.
Displays explain the turtle species, nesting cycle, tracking work, and threats facing the beach. It is not a long visit; half an hour is enough for most travellers.
