The canal tour is what Tortuguero is for: a boat at dawn along the narrow waterways behind the village, where the howler monkeys, caimans, basilisks and herons are, with an engine cut and paddles for the quiet stretches.
They also run the jungle hike and the green-turtle nesting tour, which is strictly regulated — no torches, no cameras, a licensed guide and a permit — and runs between July and October.
