Nuevo Vedado is a residential district built largely after the revolution south of old Vedado, characterised by prefabricated apartment blocks of the Soviet period alongside some older houses. It is not a neighbourhood with major tourist sights but contains the José Martí International Airport — the main point of entry to Cuba — and the large Bosque de La Habana park along the Almendares River.
The Almendares River and its surrounding green corridor (Parque Metropolitano) is one of the few genuinely natural spaces within Havana proper — the river runs through a forested valley for several kilometres, and the park along its banks offers a contrast to the dense urban fabric on either side. Worth an afternoon walk if you are in Vedado.
