Trinidad is not easy to reach by public transport, which is partly why it stayed undeveloped for so long. The town is 330 km southeast of Havana and about 80 km from Sancti Spíritus, the nearest provincial city.
From Havana: Viazul buses run once or twice daily and take about 6 hours. Book ahead — these fill up. The overnight bus is convenient if you want to use daytime hours elsewhere. Shared taxis (colectivos) also cover the route and are faster; ask at the Havana bus station or your casa particular.
From Varadero: Viazul runs direct services; journey time is about 5 hours. Many visitors do Trinidad as an overnight from Varadero, which means they arrive with the day-trip crowd — staying longer gives a much better experience of the town.
From Cienfuegos: The road along the coast is 80 km and the scenery is good. Colectivos connect the two cities regularly; the Viazul bus also stops here.
Trinidad has a small domestic airport, Alberto Delgado, but scheduled passenger flights are limited and unreliable — most travellers arrive by road.
