The Malecón

San Pedro's Malecón runs along the bay and is the city's main gathering place. In the evenings it fills up with families, vendors, motoconchos weaving through the crowd, and clusters of people watching the sea. Unlike the resort-facing Malecón in Santo Domingo, this one is decidedly local — there's no tourist veneer.

The waterfront walk passes the old pier area and offers views back across the bay to the industrial port. Evenings are the best time to come: the heat of the day eases, vendors set up, and the city's real social life plays out along the railing. The Baseball Museum at the western end is worth stopping at before or after your walk.
