Baseball Museum (Museo del Béisbol)

The Baseball Museum on the Malecón documents San Pedro's extraordinary contribution to Major League Baseball — a story that stretches from the 1950s through to today and includes hundreds of players who made it to the big leagues from this one city.

Exhibits cover the history of Dominican professional baseball, the winter league, and individual player stories, with photographs, memorabilia, and equipment spanning several decades. It's a small but genuine museum, not a tourist gimmick, and it makes the city's obsession with the sport make a lot more sense.

A story
San Pedro de Macorís has produced a disproportionate number of Major League Baseball shortstops — so many, in fact, that scouts coined the phrase "the factory of shortstops." Among the city's alumni: Sammy Sosa, Robinson Canó, Pedro Guerrero, and George Bell. At one point in the 1980s, more than 50 Dominican players on MLB rosters had come from this single city.
