Cara Sucia is a pre-Columbian archaeological site on the coastal plain southwest of El Imposible. It is less visited than Tazumal and far less polished, but it adds useful historical depth to a trip that might otherwise be all forest and volcanoes.
The site is best approached with realistic expectations and current local information. Conditions and interpretation can be limited, so it works better as a specialist detour than as a casual family stop.
