Apastepeque is a small town north of San Vicente, usually visited on the way to the lagoon of the same name. It has the familiar Salvadoran rhythm of a central square, church, market activity, and buses pulling through in bursts.
The town is not a destination by itself for most travellers, but it gives useful context to the lagoon and the surrounding agricultural countryside. Stop for a drink or a quick meal before or after the water, and keep expectations modest.
