San Vicente sits on the central corridor between San Salvador and eastern El Salvador. Buses from the capital are frequent, and onward connections continue toward San Miguel and smaller towns in the department.
The city is also a useful stop if you are travelling between the coast near Zacatecoluca and the interior. For the volcano, lakes, and water parks, having a car or arranging a local taxi saves a great deal of time.
