Laguna de Apastepeque is a volcanic lagoon north of San Vicente, surrounded by green slopes and weekend recreation spots. The water is the draw: locals come to swim, eat, rent small boats, and escape the heat of the city.
The lagoon works best as a half-day trip rather than a full expedition. Bring cash, go on a weekday for a quieter visit, and expect a local family atmosphere rather than wilderness. The drive from San Vicente is short, but public transport is slower and less direct.
