Morne LaBaye Trail

The Morne LaBaye Trail is a 15-minute loop walk from the Grand Etang visitor centre — the shortest and easiest way to get a sense of the cloud forest without committing to a longer hike. It climbs a low ridge above the visitor centre through a series of named tree species (the National Trust has labelled the major ones) and returns to the centre on a gentle descent.

The interpretive trail covers the basics of upland Caribbean rainforest: mahogany, gommier, blue mahoe, the bromeliads and orchids that festoon every branch, and the mona monkeys that frequently raid the path. It is suitable for any age and a good complement to a swim at the lake. A laminated guidebook is available at the visitor centre for a small fee.
