Mt Qua Qua is the most rewarding moderate hike in Grand Etang — a 720-metre peak on the western edge of the crater that gives 360-degree views across the spine of Grenada to both coasts on a clear day. The trail starts opposite the visitor centre and climbs steadily through cloud forest, with the path turning to a clay ladder of exposed roots in the wetter sections.
Allow three to four hours round trip, more if it has rained recently. The summit ridge is narrow and open, with a small rock outcrop you can stand on. On a clear day Carriacou is visible to the north; on a typical day clouds drift across the peak and the view comes and goes in minutes. A local guide is recommended — the trail is signposted but conditions can be confusing in cloud and many tourists turn back unnecessarily early. Bring water, sturdy shoes, and clothing for rain.
