Seven Sisters Falls

The Seven Sisters Falls are a chain of waterfalls and pools on the southern flank of Grand Etang, reached by a 30-minute walk from the trailhead off the main interior road. The path crosses private land — a small entrance fee is collected by the family that owns the access. The trail descends steeply through cocoa, bananas and forest to the bottom of the lower two falls, both of which empty into deep dark pools good for swimming.

Most visitors come for the lower fall, which has a 10-metre cascade into a clear pool you can swim across to the rock wall behind. The second fall is a longer scramble up the riverbed but worth it for the more dramatic setting. Wear shoes you can swim in; the trail is muddy and the rocks at the falls are slippery. Plan for three hours including swimming and lunch.

A story
The Seven Sisters Falls are a sequence of seven cascades on a tributary of the Saint John River. Only the lower two are normally reached by visitors — the upper falls require serious bush-bashing and a local guide who knows the cuts in the forest. Locals dive from a ledge above the second fall into the deep pool below; the drop is around 12 metres.
