Mundo Perdido, the Lost World, is one of the great sub-complexes of Tikal and much more than a side ruin. Its pyramids and plazas belong to some of the earliest ceremonial architecture in the city, with alignments and rebuilding phases that show how long Tikal kept reworking its sacred landscape.
Because many visitors hurry between the Great Plaza and the tallest temples, Mundo Perdido can feel surprisingly spacious. Climb where access is permitted, look across the forest canopy, and give the complex time; it helps Tikal make sense as a vast city rather than a handful of famous silhouettes.
