Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais was built after the 2010 earthquake as a public teaching hospital developed with Partners In Health and Zanmi Lasante. It quickly became one of Haiti's most important medical facilities, serving the Central Plateau and patients from farther afield.
This is not a tourist attraction in the ordinary sense, and visitors should not intrude on a working hospital. It belongs in a Mirebalais guide because it changed the town's role in Haiti and because its recent struggles mirror the country's wider crisis.
