Saut-d'Eau Waterfall

Saut-d'Eau is a waterfall and pilgrimage site west of Mirebalais, near Ville Bonheur. Its name simply means "waterfall," but in Haiti the place carries much more weight: it is associated with Marian apparition stories, Vodou devotion, healing rituals, and one of the country's largest annual pilgrimages.

The falls are powerful and beautiful, especially in the rainy season, but this is not just a swimming hole. Visitors should behave with respect, avoid photographing rituals without permission, and recognise that the July pilgrimage can draw large crowds.

A story
Saut-d'Eau is sacred in both Catholic and Vodou practice. Pilgrims come around the July feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel to bathe in the falls and ask for healing, blending traditions in a way that is profoundly Haitian rather than neatly separable.
