The beach at Petite Rivière de Nippes is the center of village life. Fishing boats are drawn up on the sand overnight and launched at dawn; by mid-morning the catch is ashore and sold at the small market nearby. The sea is calm in the bay and swimming is straightforward. There are no facilities, no loungers, and no vendors — just a working Caribbean beach that happens to be beautiful.
The water is clear and the sand pale; the Nippes coast is little known and rarely visited by outsiders. If you are traveling independently through southern Haiti, this is as unspoiled a stretch of coastline as you will find.
