Petite Rivière de Nippes

Small Haitian fishing village where southern coast life turns around the sea and morning market

Petite Rivière de Nippes is a small fishing village on Haiti's southern coast, in the Nippes department. Far from the capital's noise and from the main tourist circuit, life here moves at the pace of the sea and the market day.

There is no tourist infrastructure. What the village offers is the chance to witness an ordinary Haitian coastal community: the morning fish market where the catch comes in at dawn, boats drawn up on the beach, cooking smells from open kitchens, and the warmth that Haitians characteristically extend to visitors who arrive without an agenda.
