Cathédrale Saint-Marc

The parish church of Saint Mark dominates the central square of Saint-Marc, a tall white twin-towered building in the standard French-Caribbean colonial style. It is not the original — like most Haitian churches it has been rebuilt several times after fires and storms — but the current structure has the right scale for the town around it.

The square in front is shaded and lined with low colonnaded buildings. Sit on a bench for half an hour and you will see most of the daily life of provincial Haiti walk past.
