San Francisco Church

Another colonial-era church in Comayagua's historic center, San Francisco was built by Franciscan missionaries in the 16th century. The church is smaller and less ornate than the cathedral but has a quiet, contemplative quality. The Franciscan monastery that once adjoined it is gone, but the church interior retains original colonial woodwork and sculpture.

Part of the same historic walk that takes in La Merced, the cathedral, and the central plaza. The four colonial churches within a few blocks of each other make Comayagua's historic center unusually dense for a town of its size.
