Lover's Leap

About 40 km south of Mandeville, on the way to Treasure Beach and the south coast, is Lover's Leap — a near-vertical limestone cliff plunging 500 metres straight to the sea. A small lookout point with a working lighthouse, a snack bar, and a viewing platform marks the spot. The view on a clear day stretches eastward along the cliffs and out across the Caribbean.

The drive there is part of the appeal: down through Spur Tree, across the Pedro Plains, and through a small grid of villages most travellers never see. It pairs well with a half-day at YS Falls or a swim at Treasure Beach.

A story
Local legend places two enslaved lovers, Mizzy and Tunkey, on this 500-metre clifftop. To escape being separated by their owner they joined hands and jumped together — a story common to the spectacular precipices of half the islands of the Caribbean, but no less moving for it.
