Gloria's has been serving Port Royal's signature dish — fried red snapper or escovitch fish with bammy and festival — for decades, and is the place most Kingstonians will tell you to visit. The restaurant has two locations a few streets apart; the original is on Queen Street and the larger second site overlooks the harbour.
Order at the counter, take a beer, and wait — the fish comes out hot and whole, splashed with scotch bonnet pepper sauce. It is not gourmet cooking but it is the best example you will find of one of the most distinctive plates in Jamaican coastal eating.
