Museo José Guadalupe Posada

Museum dedicated to the Aguascalientes printmaker whose calaveras became icons of Mexican art.

José Guadalupe Posada was born in Aguascalientes in 1852, and this museum beside the Encino church is the place to meet him properly. His engravings and lithographs gave Mexico some of its sharpest popular images, including the elegant skull later known as La Catrina.

The museum is compact, but the work has bite. Posada's skeletons are funny, political, and merciless, and they explain a lot about why death imagery in Mexico can feel so alive.
