Parroquia Santa Maria is the main church in Amealco's centre, a late nineteenth-century parish with a calm plaza outside and a simple, local feel inside. It is not one of Mexico's grand baroque set pieces, but it anchors the town and gives the historic centre its shape.
Stop in while walking between the market and the doll museum. The square around it is also a good place to get your bearings before heading into the craft shops.
