Laguna de Sontecomapan is the quieter water trip from Catemaco. The village sits beside a mangrove-fringed lagoon that opens toward the Gulf coast, with small boats running through channels and out toward the bar.
Come for birds, mangroves, and the feeling of being in the humid back end of Veracruz rather than on a polished beach circuit. It is best with a local boatman who knows the tides and channels.
