This 16th-century Augustinian church is Ixmiquilpan's strongest sight. The architecture is sober and fortress-like, but the reason to enter is the mural cycle: warriors, jaguars, eagles, and mythic figures painted inside a Christian church.
The murals are strange in the best way, and they make the building more than another colonial stop. They show how local artists could bend a new religious space toward older visual language.
