Grutas de la Estrella is the strongest natural sight near Ixtapan de la Sal. The caves sit south of town near Tonatico, where groundwater has carved limestone chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites.
The standard visit is a guided cave walk. In the dry season, more demanding underground-river trips may be possible, but check locally before planning around them.
