The Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Salud is Pátzcuaro's most important church and the spiritual focus of the region. Pilgrims come for the revered image of the Virgin of Health, and the plaza outside often feels more local than touristy.
The building is plain compared with Mexico's great baroque cathedrals, but that restraint is part of its charm. Step inside for a few quiet minutes, then look around the surrounding streets for candle shops and food stalls serving the faithful.
