The Sierra de Pénjamo is the city's rough outdoor backdrop. The hills and canyons west of town are known for hiking, camping, viewpoints, and seasonal water in places such as the Cañón de los Murciélagos.
This is not a manicured park with everything signposted for visitors. Go with local advice, especially if you are heading beyond the obvious roads and picnic spots.
