San Felipe's beach is most interesting when the tide is out. The sea can withdraw a startling distance, exposing a flat, shining floor of sand and mud that changes the whole scale of the bay.
Check the tide before walking far, and be careful with vehicles on the beach. The same tide that makes the place memorable can come back quickly enough to turn a casual stop into a problem.
