Iglesia de Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is the church that gives Santa Rosalia its best travel story: a prefabricated iron building made in the late nineteenth century, shipped from Europe, and installed here by the Boleo mining company. It is often linked to Gustave Eiffel, and whether you come for that claim or for the oddness of the structure itself, it is worth stepping inside.

The church sits in the centre of town, only a short walk from the waterfront and the old company quarter. Its metal walls, narrow proportions, and stained glass make it feel more like industrial design than desert mission architecture, which is exactly why it belongs here.
