Kahlo Restaurant & Bar

Named with obvious intent after the painter, Kahlo is both a restaurant and a bar, with the bar side doing more interesting things than the name might suggest. The drinks focus on Mexican spirits — tequila, mezcal, and raicilla, the local agave spirit from the mountains of Jalisco and Nayarit that has become increasingly available in the bars of the Pacific coast. A bar that stocks raicilla alongside mezcal is paying attention.

The setting is more polished than most places in town: proper stools, good lighting, and a crowd that's there to drink with some intention rather than simply continue the beach day. The food is available but the bar is the reason to come. Good for an early evening aperitivo or a late-night drink when you want something more considered than a beach bar.
