La Lancha

La Lancha is the surf destination that more experienced wave-riders from Sayulita graduate to when the main break feels too tame or too crowded. It lies about 8 kilometres south of town — a 25-minute drive — and offers faster, more powerful waves in a far less crowded setting.

The beach is reached via a dirt track that branches off the coastal highway, and the walk down adds to the sense of arrival. The break works best at mid-to-high tide and picks up consistent south and northwest swells. Intermediate to advanced surfers will find it rewarding; beginners should stick to Sayulita's more forgiving main break first.

There are no facilities at La Lancha beyond what passing vendors occasionally bring. You'll need to bring water and food for the day, or plan to return to Sayulita for lunch. Several surf tour operators in town run day trips here, which simplifies the logistics if you don't have a rental car.

A story
La Lancha is a point break that works on both left and right, which is unusual enough to make it a cult spot among regular visitors. The beach itself is backed by jungle with no development in sight, a quality that has become genuinely rare along the Riviera Nayarit coast.
